According to 2024 exit polling, only 1.2 million (11% of total turnout) of the estimated 3 million eligible Black voters participated in the election—with noticeable declines in Harris and Dallas Counties. This means fewer than half of eligible Black voters participated in one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime.
Texas holds the largest Black population in the country. Yet, many of us feel disconnected from the political process. Whether driven by apathy, discouragement, or the feeling that a single vote won't make a difference, this is a major issue I am determined to explore.
